Affenpinscher

The Affenpinscher hails from Germany. He is a member of the toy group, is the smallest of the “Pinschers” and presents witha wire type coat, to go along with his adorable cute little face.

They are little dogs, are very affectionate, intelligent, and it is their scruffy appearance that makes them so appealing, along with their incredible lifespan which is 14 to 15 years. Having know known predetermined health concerns, and little grooming requirements, this little dog offers a family a long partnership filled with bouncy fun.

Usually the average litter size of an Affenpinscher is between 1 to 3 pups.

Male Affenpinschers stand at a height of 9 to 12 inches, with females at a height of a similar scale.

Males will typically weigh between 7 to 9 lbs, with females topping the scale at a similar weight.

Afghan Hound

The Afghan Hound originating from Afghanistan, appears quite striking, whith his exotic expression, prominant bones, and unique coat pattern. He is a very elegant dog and is scene ranking rather high at many dog shows. He is a good family dog, however needs a lot of exercise and open space to run, run, run!

Due to their long silky coats, regular grooming is manditory! These dogs will shed, thus grooming should be conducted daily.

Average lifespan = 9 to 13 years.

Average litter size = 8 pups.

Male Afghan Hounds stand between 25 to 27 inches, with females, standing between 23 to 25 inches.

Males will way up to 60lbs, with females weighing in at 50lbs or so.

Airedale Terriers

The Airedale Terrier comes to us from the country of England, and has an estimated lifespan of 13 years.

Males will reach a height of 23 inches and a weight of 45lbs, while females, will stand around 22 inches, weighing in at around 45lbs also.

This little Terrier is a good dog to have for guarding purposes, and is great with children. Minimal grooming is required, with a clipping recommended every 5 to six months.

Average litter size of an Airedale terrier is 9 pups.

Akbash Dog

Hailing from Turkey, The Akbash Dog is one of lean elegant lines, but do not let those lines fool you. They are a fearless guardian, and are used to protect sheep.

They can run at tremendous speeds, and are very agile on their feet. They are extremely loyal dogs and are good at guarding property, family or sheep what ever the case maybe.

Males typically grow to a height of 28 to 31 inches, weighing 90 to 130lbs.

Females grow to a height of 27 to 29 inches, and weigh 75 to 100lbs

Akita

Hailing from Japan is the Akita.

This magestic dog is a very powerful and formidable animal that is a really good choice of guard dog. They are suited to cold climates, and have a lifespan in and around 10 to 12 years.

The average litter size for an Akita is 6 pups.

They have a double coat, grooming is average, but shedding is heavy.

Males grow to a height of 25 to 28 inches and weigh in at anywhere from 85 to 130lbs.

Females stand 23 to 26 inches high, weighing between 65 to 110lbs.

Alapha Bulldog

The Alapha Bulldog brings with it supreme strength and power along with a great looking muscular body.

He is very alert, and is a great family watch dog, whose lifespan ranges from 12 to 15 years.

Males and females will grow to a height of 20 to 23 inches, weighing between 50 and 100lbs.

Alaskan Malamute

Originating from Alaska, the Alaskan Malamute is a big fluffy type of dog that is very well suited to cold climate living thanks to his long coat.

These dogs are very vocal, and will howl instead of bark which is funny for people to hear. Due to their long long coat, regular grooming is necessary to prevent matting. These dogs are an outdoors loving breed and need a lot of exercise, with a lifespan ranging from 10 to 14 years.

The average litter size of a Malamute is 6 pups.

Males will reach a height of 25 inches, weighing up to 85lbs.

Females will reach a height of 23 inches, weighing in at 75lbs.

American Bulldog

The American Bulldog hails from the USA, and is known for his ability to be a fierce protector, as well as a loving family pet.

This dog is very powerful, and used to go by the name of American Pitbull before the name was changed.

These dogs exude confidence, and will protect their owner with vigor. Anybody owning an American Bulldog, should be fair but firm with them, to insure that Alpha status is set, in order to avoid unwanted confrontation.

These dogs can grow to a height of 26 inches at the shoulders, and have an average litter size of 11 puppies.

Average life span for an American Bulldog is 10 to 15 years.

Grooming should be performed in the form of a brushing every couple of days. This breed will shed a lot.

American Eskimo

The American Eskimo funnily enough hails from Germany originally. Due to there being three different recognized sizes of this dog breed the height and weight varies:

Toy

Height = 9 to 12 inches.

Miniature

Height = 12 to 15 inches.

Standard

Height = 15 to 19 inches.

The average litter size of an American Eskimo for any size, is 5 pups. The breed has a suggested lifespan of 15 to 17 years, and grooming should be done twice weekly or so to avoid matting.

American Pitbull Terrier

The American Pitbull Terrier is a dog that exudes power, confidents and willingness. The body is thick and very muscular, yet this dog is surprisingly agile and quick.

Due to their unique temperment, this dog is not for everybody, however they can be trained to be a loyal lovable fun house pet. Socialization must take place early and often to help curb aggressive tendancies. This dog is relatively easy to train, and makes for a great guard dog.

The American Pitbull Terrier usually grows to a height of 18 to 22 inches, weighing in at between 20 and 110lbs.

American Staffordshire Terrier

Hailing from the US, this muscular dog is very closely related to the American Pitbull. Originally used for dog fighting competition, these dogs are now quite popular as family pets and can be great pets if raised by a good dog owner.

These Terriers will grow to a height of 15 inches, weighing up to 80lbs.

Being of a short haired breed, grooming for these dogs is minimal to none.

The average litter size for a Staffordshire Terrier is 4 pups.

American Water Spaniel

Hailing from the USA the American Water Spaniel was bred for hunting purposes. It appears quite muscular with a dense curly coat.

Males and females will stand between 15 to 18 inches high.

Males will weigh somewhere between 30 and 45lbs, with females weighing 25 to 40lbs.

These dogs are full of life and are very eager to please, and are considered a good house pet.

Australian Terrier

The Australian Terrier is a sturdy little guy, full of intelligence, and self confidence.

They usually stand at a height of 10/11 inches, and present with a rough outer coat.

The temperment of this breed is one of fearlessness, very high spirits, full of energy, eager to please, and is a wonderful companion dog for these reasons.

Basenji

The Basenji hails from Central Africa, and is noted for its tightly tucked tail, wedge shaped head, and rinkled forehead. It was originally bred for hunting, and is classified as a Site Hound. They will chase anything and everything that moves, thus controling them is important especially when cars are driving past them. This breed is one of the cleaner breeds, and does not bark like most dogs.

Basenjis will grow to between 16 to 18 inches, and have an average litter size of 4 pups.

The lifespan of a Basenji is between 10 to 13 years.

Grooming requirements for this dog are very minimal.

Basset Hound

The Basset Hound Hails from Britain and is a scent hound that was used to hunt in heavy cover areas. It is a relatively big dog with little legs, but dont let that full you, they can run. If you do not like dog drool, then do not get a Basset Hound as they drool constantly it seems.

Personality wize, this dog is great for a family pet. Loyall, protective if need be, energetic, gentle, and good with other pets.

Usually this breed will grow to a height between 13 and 15 inches, with an average life expectancy of 12 years.

The average litter size of a Basset Hound bitch is 8 puppies.

Beagle

The Beagle is a hardy fella hailing from Britain. they are very energetic, and love to keep you on your toes. They are quite a muscular dog, and make for a great family dog. They belong to the hound group.

They usually stand at a height of 13 to 16 inches tall, and have an average litter size of 6 puppies.

The average life expectancy of a Beagle is between 9 to 15 years.

Grooming needs to be done daily, along with often ear cleaning.

Bearded Collie

The Bearded Collie hails from Britain, and can also go by the name of Highland Collie, or the Mountain Collie. They are one of the country’s oldest Dog Breeds and are still viewed as a capable working dog, working sheep and cattle.

The Bearded Collie has a distinct bark that he uses when working cattle or sheep, and if thinking about bringing one into your home, remember this trait as it has stayed with them generation after generation.

The Bearded Collie is fun to be around and is very intelligent. They love the outdoors and can run for ever due to their aboundless energy supply.

The Bearded Collie will grow to approximately 21 inches in height.

The average lifespan of a Bearded Collie is 10 to 12 years.

Grooming needs to be done regularly with this dog as they can develop matts if their coat is not maintained. They are also heavy heavy shedders.

Bergamasco

The Bergamasco hails from the country of Italy. This is a fairly large dog and is very very hairy. Many people think that this dog is the world’s hairyest dog.

Bergamascos are used as working dogs in the mountains of Bergamo, and other parts of Italy where they herd sheep. The breed is fearless, highly intelligent and very loyal, making a great family dog.

The Bergamasco will grow to approximately 23 inches high.

The life span of a Bergamasco is 11 to 14 years.

Average litter size of a Bergamasco is 4 to 5 puppies.

Grooming requirements are high with this dog due to natural matting that will occur. This breed will not shed.

Bernese Mountain Dog

The Bernese Mountain Dog hails from the country of Switzerland, and was originally used as a guard and draught dog. They are classified as part of the Working group, and make a very lovable house pet.

These dogs are very appropriate for children, and can even show protective instincts towards them making them a suitable family pet. Exercise is a manditory component to the welfare of this Dog Breed

Beauceron

The Beauceron is a relatively large dog originally used for herding. Hailing from France, they are also very good guard dogs, with a very keen sense of smell, and a fearless attitude.

This is one of the larger breeds of dog standing at a height of 28 inches at the shoulders.

These dogs will shed medium throughout the year and only require minimal grooming.

These dogs are very teritorial and will not do well around strange dogs.

Bedlington Terriers

Bedlington Terriers hail from the country of England, where they were primarily used for hunting purposes. They, to some people have a sheep like appearance, due to their coat, and head structure.

These playful affectionate Terriers make good house pets, requiring moderate daily exercise, and two or more weekly grooming sessions to remove matted hair. Clipping is also recommended once a month.

This dog breed is relatively small, growing to a height of 15 to 17 inches, and weighing in at 18 to 23 lbs.

Belgian Malinois

The Belgian Malinois hails from Belgium, belonging to a group of 4 Belgium Shepherd dogs; Belgian Malinois,
Belgian Tervuren, Groenendael and Laekenois.

These dogs can be agressive if not trained at an early age, and need sound obedience training to minimize this trait.

With a similar build to the German Shepherd these beautiful dogs have an incredible scenting ability, something that they are widely known for.

They are used today, in all aspects of working fields; tracking, defense and guarding and make a wonderful guard dog of family property.

These dogs are keen, atentive, alert, and very loyal to their owner/owners.

They can grow up to a hight of 24 inches, living up to 13 years of age.

The average litter size of a Belgian Malinois is 7 puppies.

This dog sheds a lot and needs daily or bi-daily grooming sessions.

Bichon Frise

The Bichon Frise hails from France/Belgium and is a wonderful choice for apartment living families looking for a fun energetic loving companion.

A member of the toy group these dogs are known as people dogs, and will thrive in the company of humans. They are excellent with children, and are very affectionate.

These dogs are very small, growing to an average height of 10 inches.

Black and Tan Coonhound

Black and Tan Coonhounds hail from the USA and are a member of the scent hound family. It used to be used to hunt raccoons and opossums, tracking entirely via his ability to scent.

These dogs love to bark, dig, chase small animals, and howl at nothing imparticular. Agressiveness is not in their nature, making them a suitable family dog, needing a lot of exercise to burn off their abundant energy supply.

They are classed as a large breed of dog, and can grow to a hight over 23 and under 27 inches tall.

Black Russian Terrier

Black Russian Terriers hail from Russia, and are a member of the working group. These dogs have a very high defense drive, and have natural guarding instincts making them a suitable guard dog.

Although they can be defensive, they are very loyal gentle dogs, highly trainable, with a great temperament, suited for family life.

This is a Large breed of dog, needing a lot of daily exercise. They have the ability to grow to a height of 28 inches.

Blood Hounds

Blood Hounds are originally from Belgium, and are a member of the Hound group. They are natural hunters, relying solely on their ability to scent.

These dogs are very powerful despite their appearance, and due to their incredible sense of smell, are used often as detection and rescue dogs.

Bloodhounds do not make for great pets due to the amount of exercise they need and the fact that they need to be around people constantly. They are a very independent dog breed that sheds a lot, drewels accessively, and smells alot if not maintained, making them a huge responsibility for the owner.

Thus said, they are very loyal gentle companions, that get along well with other dogs.

Bolognese

The Bolognese hails from Italy, and is classified as a member of the Foundation Stock Service. With a similar appearance to the Bichon, this breed of dog is loyal, relatively quiet, and very intelligent.

These dogs have no odor, and are suited well for people who have allergies. They love people, and are not the type of dog that handles being left alone for long periods of time.

This is a small breed of dog, standing on average at 11 inches tall.

The average litter size of the Bolognese is 6 puppies.

Daily brushing should be done to prevent the coat from matting, however this breed does not shed.

Border Collie

The Border Collie originate from Great Britain, and are part of the Herding group. They are used for herding sheep, working quietly and eficiently in conjunction with whistled signals from the shepherd.

These dogs have an abundant energy supply, needing a very high amount of daily exercise. They are alert, keen, responsive and intelligent, however due to their herding instincts, are not always suited for families with small children.

They are a medium sized dog, growing to a height of 20 to 22 inches.

The average litter size for a Border Collie is 6 puppies.

The life span for a Border Collie ranges from 9 up to 15 years of age.

These dogs need weekly brushing. They are a medium shedding breed of dog.

Border Terrier

The Border Terrier hails from Britain, and belongs to the Terrier group. This is one of the more rare breeds of terrier, traditionally used to kill foxes.

This dog is a supreme worker, and is still used today to hunt foxes and badgers.

This dog like other Terriers, is very tough, and sometimes even if they are sick, symptims are not seen, thus careful attention must be paid to your Terrier at all times to watch for changes in behavior.

This dog is fun loving, loyal and trust worthy.

Border Terriers grow to a height of 11 to 13 inches.

Bristle brushing, ear cleaning and hair clipping are all recommended regularly for this breed of dog.

Boston Terrier

The Boston Terrier hails from the USA and is a member of the Non-Sporting group. They are a hybrid, a result of breeding the English Terrier and the American Bulldog

Boston Terriers are full of energy, and are very friendly towards humans. They make great house dogs, but do not handle extreme heat, or cold very well. They get along with children, and are very attentive.

Boston Terriers grow to a size of 15 to 17 inches.

Average litter size of a Boston Terrier is 4 puppies.

Life spans of Boston Terriers range from 9 to 15 years.

A grooming glove, or rough towel should be used on the Boston once a week.

Bouvier des Flandres

The Bouvier des Flandres hails from Belgium-France, and belongs to the Herding group. These dogs get their name from a region of Europe, bordering Belgium, Holland and France. They are a cattle dog, used to herd cattle, and back in the olden days, pulled milk and cheese carts, as well as acting as messenger dogs.

This is a pretty sloppy breed of dog, usually retaining unwanted food, water and mud in his lengthy beard. They are self confident, but not over agressive. They can be playful, but also stubborn, becoming very attached to their family.

This is a large dog breed with the ability to grow to 27 inches.

Average litter size for a Bouvier is 5 puppies.

Average life span for a Bouvier is 10 to 12 years.

These breeds do not shed, however grooming and trimming are recommended.

Boxer

The Boxer hails from Germany and belongs to the working group. This is probably one of the most fun loving breeds of dog, with bountiful supplies of energy, loving to play with kids, or other boxers, in a “boxing” style of play that is amazing to watch.

Boxers can be bred to be guard dogs, and can show protective qualities if trained properly. They need to be around people, and can be quite distructive if left alone to keep themselves occupied. Exercise requirements are very high for this dog, with a recommended 2 hours of exercise daily.

These dogs are known to be very agressive towards dogs of the same sex.

Boxers grow to a height of 21 to 25 inches.

This is a short haired dog, meaning that grooming is not really necessary.

Boykin Spaniel

The Boykin Spaniel hails from the USA and belongs to the Foundation Stock Service group. This spaniel has been used to hunt, mainly hunting doves, turkeys, and ducks.

The Boykin Spaniel does very well in hot climates, and has the honor of being the official state dog of South Carolina.

These medium sized dogs are cheerful, energetic, and enthusiastic. They are very gentle, making them a hit with families.

Boykins grow to a height of 14 to 18 inches.

Bracco Italiano

The Bracco Italiano hails from Italy and belongs to the Foundation Stock Service group. They are hunting dogs that point as well as retrieve from water, and many view them as the oldest hunting breed of dog.

They are fearless dogs, but do show awareness around strangers. They love to work, and are perfectly suited for a life in the country where they can run and play.

They are very trainable, calm and loyal dogs, making them good for house pets.

Bracco Italianos can grow to a height of 27 inches tall.

The average litter size for a Bracco Italiano is 3 to 5 puppies.

Life span of a Bracco Italiano is 9 to 14 years.

These dogs shed very little, and constant grooming is not necessary.

Briards

The Briard hails from France and belongs to the Herding group. It is a Sheepdog, and is France’s oldest known dog to work flocks.

The Briard gets his name from the district of Brie, famous for its cheese making. This dog is very, very athletic, able to amble 50 miles a day if necessary.

These dogs are amazing working dogs, and are used for; seeing eye dogs, rescue, and police dog work.

These dogs have strong protective instincts, and can be agressive towards dogs of the same sex, as well as people of the same sex. Their exercise needs are very, very high.

This is a large breed of dog, growing up to 27 inches tall.

The average litter size for Briards is 5 to 7 puppies.

Average life span for Briards is 10 to 12 years.

Thorough weekly brushing is needed to keep the coat free of matting. Undercoat sheds, meaning that brushing is required to remove the undercoat which can stick to the dog’s outer coat.

Bulldog

The Bulldog hails from Great Britain and belongs to the Non-Sporting group. This dog is often called the English Bulldog and used to be used for Bullbaiting, an act in which the trained dogs attacked tied up bulls killing them for sport.

Despite his sturdy, wrinkly appearance, this dog is known for his gentle loyal good natured ways, and is thought of as a great house pet.

The Bulldog is not a vicious breed of dog as many believe, and gets along well with other humans and animals.

These dogs can grow up to 14 inches tall.

Average litter size for a Bulldog is 5 puppies.

Face needs cleaned regularly, and regular brushing with a curry brush is recommended. Shedding with this breed is moderate to light.

Bullmastiff

The Bullmastiff hails from Great Britain and belongs to the Working group. This Breed is also referred to as the English Bullmastiff due to the fact that the breed was formed by crossing the Bulldog and the Mastiff.

The Bullmastiff was used to guard property, and even today is a fierce protecter of property.

Despite his size, this dog is a loving household companion, and will guard his family from any intrudances.

This dog drools a ton, and craves human interaction.

This is a large breed of dog, with the ability to grow to a height of 27 inches tall.

Cairn Terriers

Cairn Terriers hail from Great Britain and belong to the Terrier group. The Cairn Terrier was developed as a killer of rodents which infested cairns which are piles of stones. They are small dogs full of energy and are extremely playful.

They make for great pets for families with children due to their small size as they do not require a great amount of space.

It is the perfect dog whether you live in the city or the country as long as it gets enough love and attention. The Cairn is single-heartedly devoted to his master and is a natural retriever. Also this type of dog makes for a great watchdog as it has a quick ear and sharp bark.

Grooming should be done weekly, with extra attention given to eyes and teeth.

Cane Corso

The Cane Corso hails from Italy and belongs to the Foundation Stock Service. It is a descendant of the old Roman war dogs Canis Pugnax. In the past these type of dogs were greatly valued by hunters and farmers for their great speed, loyalty and power.

The Cane Corso is still used today on Italian farms to protect livestock such as guarding sheep.

The Cane Corso breed was officially recognized for the first time in 1994. It has an undeserved reputation of being a dangerous dog as it is a fearless family protector.

They have a balanced temper and are extremely dependable as a pet around children in the family.

These dogs grow to a height of 25 inches.

Average litter size for a Cane Corso is 6 puppies.

Average life span for these dogs is 9 to 12 years.

These dogs need minimal grooming at best.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small dog with a very kind and sweet temperament hailing from Great Britain and belonging to the Toy group.

This dog makes for an amazing pet as it has a great deal of devotion to his human family.

The history of this type of dog traces back to being a favorite amongst royalty back in England in the 16th century and were named King Charles Spaniels back in the 17th century.

Cavaliers alert you about visitors and warm up quickly to strangers. They come in many different colors and are great for children or the elderly.

They are 12 to 13 inches tall at the shoulders, have a litter size of 4 on average and live 13 to 15 years.

Ear care, and trimming of the hair on their foot pads should be done regularly.

Chihuahua

The Chihuahua is the smallest dog in the world, originating from Mexico and a member of the Toy group.

They are very intelligent, alert and hardy overall but can be timid around strangers. They are a great watchdog and will alert of strangers when they come and are great companions to elderly and single people alike.

Their height is only about 6 to 9 inches at the shoulders and they weigh from 5 to 6 pounds.

They have an average litter size of 3 and have a life span of 12-15 years. They do require a little upkeep with brushing, ear cleaning and nail trimming and have moderate shedding.

Chinese Crested

The Chinese Crested Dog originated in China and is a very playful and affectionate dog.

A member of the Toy group, they are very friendly and active and require little to no exercise. They prefer staying indoors and make a great pet for elderly people as they are also good watchdogs.

They are small dogs as they only stand 11 to 13 inches at the shoulders and have an average litter size of 3.

Their average life span is 10 to 14 years and they do require some grooming with brushing about once a week.

These dogs shed little to not at all and are best with children over the age of 5 years. They get along great with other cats and dogs as well, but can be difficult to house train.

Chow Chow

The Chow Chow hails from China and belongs to the Non-Sporting group. It is an intelligent yet stubborn dog which is always devoted to its family. They are very suspicious of strangers and are of medium size.

They stand at 15 to 22 inches at the shoulders and have an average litter size of 5.

They have an average life span of 10 to 12 years and have either a smooth or rough coat. The rough-coated Chow needs daily brushing and shed heavily twice a year.

Chow Chow dogs are not suitable for families with children and need to exercise but to also stay indoors. The stubborn dog is easy to housebreak but difficult to do other training with.

Clumber Spaniel

The Clumber Spaniel got its name from Clumber Park, the home of the Duke of Newcastle in Nottingham, England.

Hailing from Great Britain, This breed of dog is a great tracker and retriever but is slower than other spaniel breeds.

It is a dignified dog breed but has great enthusiasm when it wants to work and or play. The breed makes for a great companion as they are very loyal and affectionate. Exercise is required quite often to keep the dog from getting overweight.

Average height of the Clumber Spaniel is between 17 and 20 inches and weight is between 55 and 85 pounds.

The dog has a low bark and will only bark if it absolutely has to.

Cocker Spaniel

The Cocker Spaniel hails from the USA and belongs to the Sporting group. It is one of the oldest of the land Spaniel breeds. It dates back to the 14th century.

Dachshund

Due to their rapid growth, forcing them to exercise should not be recommended as this practice can hinder their growth and proper development which can take up to 2 years.

These dogs are relatively easy to train, as long as a gentle training approach is used. They are very intelligent and are thus willing to learn.

The lifespan of the Irish Wolfhound is relatively short due to their size and is between 6 to 8 years.

This breed is known as an average shedder. Their rough coat should be groomed regularly to remove dead hair.

These dogs are prone to cardiomyopathy, bone cancer, PRA, Von Willebrands, and hip dysplasia.

Italian Greyhound

The Italian Greyhound is a member of the Toy group and originates from Italy, where they are utilized as a racing dog. They are quiet and affectionate but also have a ton of energy. They are a small dog standing at 12 to 15 inches at the shoulders.

Kerry Blue Terrier

The Kerry Blue Terrier originates from Ireland and is actually the national dog of the Republic of Ireland. There it is known as the Irish Blue. This breed has been used to hunt small game and birds as well as to retrieve them from the land and water.

They also herd sheep and cattle and are rather short.

They do not shed their coats or have any type of dog odor of any kind. This stubborn and assertive dog is not very tolerant therefore it does not do very well around children but is very loyal to its owners.

It is an outgoing dog with wit, humor, and one hell of a temper and maintains its liveliness even at older ages.

Keeshond

The Keeshond originates from Holland and is also known as the Dutch Barge Dog. It is a typical spitz dog with a pointed muzzle, up-curled tail, pricked ears, and a thick coat. They are very easy to train.

They act as a great watchdog for a home or farm due to its lack of hunting instinct. It has a double coat which comes in many different colors.

This outgoing dog has a loud bark which will go off whenever it senses just about anything to alert those surrounding it.

A full-grown Keeshond can handle rough-play with children though a puppy may not fair as well with the tolerance.

Labrador Retriever

The Labrador Retriever originates from Great Britain and is a sporting dog which is used as a retriever. They are a very friendly breed which is good-natured and shows affection to just about anyone. They are very adaptable and bond very well with children as well.

Lagotto Romagnolo

Lancashire Heeler

They love to just play at home or walk on a leash.

Maltese

The Maltese originates from Malta and is a companion and toy dog who is very gentle, quiet and loving to the family.

They do not shed at all and are the perfect dog for those with allergies because of this reason.

Maremma Sheepdog

A member of the Non-Sporting group, they are a very vocal dog making them great guard dogs and is a natural watch dog with a strong sense of territory.

They require grooming every three months professionally but do not shed.

Portuguese Water Dog

They love children but due to their immense size need to be watched closely as even nice good-natured affection could be too rough for children.

Scottish Terrier

Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier

The Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier is used as a farm dog for keeping down virmin and for hunting otters and badgers. They are very intelligent and loyal as well as protective and affectionate.

The Tosas never demonstrate any aggression towards humans usually as they are affectionate, loyal, and gentle.

Toy Fox Terrier

It is a great companion for children of all ages and is extremely sociable with other pets including cats.

Whippet

The Whippet originates from Great Britain and is a racing dog of medium size at 17.5 to 20 inches at the shoulders. This very gentle and affectionate dog is extremely dependable and easy to care for making it a great family pet.

The Whippet has a coat which is easy to care for as no extensive brushing is required and it sheds very little. It gets along very well with other pets as well as children but will tend to chase cats.

It is a racing dog and will runn if it has something to chase. A fenced in yard is a necessity if you are going to own one as a pet.

Xoloitzcuintli

The Xoloitzcuintli breed originates from Mexico and is a watchdog who is calm, alert, wary of strangers, and affectionate.

It has an average litter size of 3 to 5 and an average life span of 12 to 15 years and does not shed. The skin requires care to prevent sunburns as it has virtually no coat. In cold climates these dogs need to wear coats to keep warm.

They live in peace with other dogs and are very friendly towards children.

In terms of exercise the only requirement is a shaded area to avoid a sun burn.

Yorkshire Terrior

The Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie) originates from Great Britain and is in the toy group as it is a small dog only weighing in at up to 7 pounds.

This extremely independent and lively dog is a very loyal companion and a great watchdog.
