Lars Post TPLO Surgery Day 4/5

Yesterday was the fourth day post TPLO for Lars, and the first day that I have made a bit of a mistake as far as his rehab goes.

Letting him jump into the back of a car is not recommended at this early stage of his recovery but that is what I did, by accident of course as before I could verbally direct him to wait he had leapt up into the back of the car, on three legs.

He is feeling so much better as each day goes past, that I am now beginning to feel very guilty about restricting his movement as much as I am doing. I have begun some passive ROM (range of motion) exercises with him, and continue to ice his leg regularly.

We are also going on short little strolls lasting only five minutes, and as each week goes by, the length of his walks will increase.

As for Bar’s walking, he is putting considerable weight on his leg already, wow he is such a tough little man. I was running at Conroy Pit, Lar’s fav dog park yesterday and it certainly felt very weird not having the little man bouncing up ahead.

Lars has one more full day of pain medication, and to me it seems kinda soon to take him off the drug. He is currently on Tramadol, not sure of the dosage, but am sure of how many pills and when he gets them, lol. He is also on an antibiotic to prevent skin or bone infection and an anti-inflammatory drug.
