Lars Set For Cruciate Ligament Surgery
So today is Bar’s final day of living with a cruciate ligament tear as tomorrow he goes under the knife to repair his knee.
Technically he will probably always have a slight tear in the ligament, as it is not being actually repaired tomorrow but his knee joint will be stable right away as the tibia is being rotated and then bolted to the femur to reduce the stress on the cruciate.
Recovery time from the surgery is faster than it would be for other types of cruciate repair surgery because with TPLO, the joint is stable right away, it is the bones fusing together that takes time.
Bar will need my help going out for his business as for the first few days, it is very unlikely that he will be able to put any weight on his leg, but i’m hoping he will begin toe touching sooner than later, a sign that he is testing out the leg to see what it can take as far as his weight goes.
Total recovery time from TPLO is roughly four months, barring complications and dogs who undergo this op are supposed to begin using the leg as fast as possible.
As far as his work goes, Bar will be getting paid vacation, lol and I’ll be breaking out the cane to get around for the time being, not a bad option for me as I could use the practice.
This knee pain has been going on for so long now that it seems like it is something that we have always had to deal with and it is kinda weird to be coming to the end of the road if you will, and hopefully in four months time Bar is pain free and back to his ‘ol self.
